It’s July, the sun is hot, and it feels like the countdown to the new school year has already begun! This summer our family decided to go on a tour of our area with a specific goal in mind.
We weren’t looking for parks.
We weren’t finding the best splash pad.
We weren’t exploring new trails.
We were out on a “Sweet” mission, on an Ice Cream Tour of the Quad Cities. We decided to slowly work our way around and try out some local Ice Cream establishments.
If you have a sweet tooth in your family like we do, here are our favorites:
8 locations in the Quad Cities. Whitey’s is known as “The Best in the Midwest”. For many it has become a staple for families during the summer or all year round. Whitey’s has everything from push-up pops and ice cream cones to specialty shakes and malts. This may be one of our favorite “year round” stops!

We stopped at the Coal Valley location after a trip to the zoo. It is a small shop but had a comfy couch in the back and after a hot day, I got an ice cream float with orange soda and it reminded me of being a kid again.
Doesn’t everyone give their baby a little taste of ice cream on the summer ice cream tour? Totally 3rd baby problems, the 1st two never had any sugar before a year!
JuJuBe Frozen Yogurt
4810 Elmore Avenue, Davenport, IA
Located right across from Target, you can get a shopping and sweets fix all on one street. Lots of different flavors and even more toppings make this a fun place for kids and families. Places like this also make it a little bit easier to have portion control.
3431 Devils Glen Rd, Bettendorf, IA 52722
This is one of our other favorite stops. It’s close to home and has lots of options. They are also great about labeling their yogurt so you know what is dairy free and other allergens. They also include some ideas on what to mix for a fun treat.
Our other favorite part about this location is that there is a huge set of floor checkers the kids love to play and other board games while you eat.
118 W Franklin St, Eldridge, IA 52748
This may be our new favorite. It is a small little ice cream shop, but WOW! it is amazing! There are so many options, and most of the shakes come with lots of whip cream on top. This is true small town feel shop but is a must stop!! There are picnic tables around back too.
1422 5th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265
2132 East 11th Street, Davenport, IA 52803
Candy and ice cream!! How can you go wrong here?
Pioneer Village Soda Shop
18817 290th St, Long Grove, IA 52756
Open Saturday’s, Sunday’s & holidays 11-6.
Enjoy an old-time ice cream soda, sundae or ice cream cone in our 1920’s era Soda Fountain. Home-made items and souvenirs are also for sale. It’s always fun to walk around the village, play on the train and then stop in for a cold treat in the old ice cream shop.
Big Dave and Holly’s
1204 N Cody Rd, Le Claire, IA 52753
sMOOth Cool Treats
5264 Utica Ridge Rd, Davenport, IA 52807
This is the old Maggie Moo’s under new ownership. Still lots of options all mixed on a concrete slab.
Cold Stone Creamery
4706 Utica Ridge Rd #2, Davenport, IA 52807
Ice cream chain offering design-your-own creations hand-mixed on a granite slab, plus shakes & more.
There are a few places we missed and we haven’t made it to all of these on the list yet, but it has been a fun and silly way to spend our summer together.
