It’s Preschool Time!

Where did the last 4 years go?! I can’t believe Evie is old enough to go to preschool!  Last week I started looking into the free preschool program for 4 year olds in Iowa.  It’s actually called the ‘Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for Four-Year-Old Children‘ and NOW is the time to sign up for it!  I got a ton of information and here are the basics: The purpose of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for Four-Year-Old Children is to provide an opportunity for all young children in the State of Iowa to enter school ready to learn by expanding voluntary access to quality preschool programs for all four-year-old children.  If your child will be four years old on or before September 15, 2012, he or she may attend preschool for the 2012-2013 school year.  Families of preschoolers in this program can receive preschool education at no charge for 10 hours per week.

Preschool.  I was really excited at first, but now I am getting super freaked out!  I’m sure Evie is 100% ready to go, but am I?  Up to this point, I’ve been able to protect her, guide her play, monitor her interactions with other children, and be there for her when she needs me.  Now, I have to think about letting her go into a world that is UNPREDICTABLE!  Ai yi yi!  I can’t even think about the day she will be old enough for… KINDERGARTEN!

Maybe I have trust issues…  I was once a preschool teacher and I know how much love I gave the kids, but this is MY kid and no one can love her as much as ME!  Nevertheless, I am preparing to send her this fall.

Here’s what I’ve had to get together:
The application(s)
Photocopy of her birth certificate
Photocopy of her immunizations
Proof of residency

Here are the details for our local school district preschools:
Bettendorf Preschool Program– The applications (4 of them) can be found here.  Call Bev at 359-8261 with questions.

Davenport Preschool Program– Go to Children’s Village West- 1757 W 12th St. in Davenport (west of the Putnam Museum) to fill out an application.  Call 823-2086 with questions.

North Scott Preschool Program– On Feb 23rd at 6:30 there is an informational meeting at the Administrative Building in Eldridge.  They will be collecting registration forms after this meeting.  The application can also be found here.  Call Sherri at 285-3114 with questions.

Sorry those east of the Mississippi, I don’t think you have a program like this!  Let me know if you have information to share though!

She’s totally ready, don’t you think?!

What an exciting time in both your lives! Evie is going to have so much fun!

IL does have a “Preschool for All” program and I believe (I haven’t looked into it fully) it’s similar to what’s in IA.

    Here’s the pdf.

Thanks for posting this, Camye!! It is nice to know I am not the only one with some nervousness about sending my “baby” tp preschool. My son is very shy in new situations and already tells me he doesn’t want to go to preschool. :(. It will be something both of us will get through and then I know it will be an awesome experience! Great post.
