Why is now a good time to sell your home?
Across the country, for the past couple of years, we have had a reduced inventory. This tends to promote higher prices for the seller. Right now, during the summer months, the highest number of buyers are actively searching for a new home.

What’s the market like for homes in the Quad Cities right now?
Currently, on the Iowa side, it is a seller’s market, up to $400,000, and active in the upper price range. We simply do not have enough inventory.

On the Illinois side it’s still fairly active, but more balanced between sellers and buyers.

What are things that many families are looking for when buying a home?
Today’s buyers are typically looking for homes that have little or no work to be done. They want updated kitchens and baths, well maintained mechanicals, and open floor plans.

Are there any quick projects you recommend to sellers to work on to increase their home’s value or decrease the time it takes to sell a home?
First, get rid of clutter and excess furniture. The buyers want to see the house, not the seller’s decorating. Next, fresh paint and clean or new flooring. Finally, curb appeal – landscaping must be tidy.

Are there any common mistakes you see homeowners making when preparing their homes for sale?
Yes, spending too much on things that are important to them.

Sellers should always consult a real estate agent about where to best spend their money. Agents know what buyers are looking for in the different price ranges.
