KEEP SPARKLING, MAMA

“Don’t ever let anyone dull your sparkle” One of my favorite quotes. Probably because over the years I have come to the sad conclusion that we live in a society that wants to dampen our sparkle every single day.

Guess what?  It doesn’t have to be that way. I am prepping to hit a milestone birthday at the end of this year. Not gonna life…I am in slight, okay BIG denial. But life has been good. SO good. I am grateful for the blessings that I have experienced over the past four decades. Some of the best gifts? Experience, perspective, and dare I say it? Wisdom.

What I have found is the more you put yourself out there the more you set yourself up for attack. Sometimes it may feel like there is a big old bullseye on your back.

Being vulnerable and authentic is hard. A good friend and mentor recently shared this quote with me, “To grow is to accept vulnerability. To be alive is to be vulnerable.” You see we can only be our true self when we are willing to embrace that vulnerability.

It can be easy to cast stones and create judgement when you’re only looking at a small piece of a puzzle. What I’ve come to learn is often the fragment of the picture we see and base our judgement on is rarely the entire story….a story with twists and turns and details we may not even understand.

I get it. I very often was that person who would judge based on the minimal info at hand. I was trying to figure out who I was. Find my place. I had insecurities galore. I would look at others thriving, happy, put together, “popular” (man I hate that word), and I would cast a judgement not at all knowing their real story.

But when you start really growing up (and I do realize many, many people may age but they never truly “grow up”) and experiencing the chaos of life you realize we don’t have a clue about everyone else’s stories. It’s not my place nor does it serve any purpose whatsoever to judge or criticize someone else when I’m still trying to figure out my own journey in life.

I have come to realize that often the biggest, meanest, most vocal judgers are typically the unhappiest, most insecure, and jealous of the them all. You could be the friendliest, kindest, smartest, most generous person walking this earth and still “haters gonna hate”. They will find something to judge. But the key we must all remember….That’s a reflection of them NOT you.

You must keep our head high, your sparkle bright, and keep being true to who you are. You will find your tribe who loves you for YOU. They have your back. No matter what. Catch you when you fall. Guide you through the challenges. They know YOU.

Sometimes you have to go through a few to find the real ones. The true ones. The ones that find purpose in building you up rather than breaking you down. The one where YOU fit. Where you can be YOU. Raw, vulnerable, authentically beautiful YOU. Find your tribe. Be someone’s tribe. Don’t have a tribe? Look me up. I got you. When we embrace each others’ authenticity we all SPARKLE brighter together. Sparkle on Mama!
